Starting a non-profit isn’t easy. You have to recruit a strong board, figure out how to manage and run an organization from marketing and fundraising to legal and compliance and also create a weekly Zoom time that works for the entire team … which is much more difficult than you would think.
It’s sometimes scandalous to mention, but bringing in money is critical, especially for a non-profit in its embryonic stages, attempting to launch a comprehensive website and create a name for itself. This is why we’re thrilled to announce that Let’s Move US was one of the winners of this year’s Rutgers Business School Business Plan Competition.
This victory came with a $15,000 grand prize, which will be critical in jumpstarting our movement. But just as importantly, it allowed the team to network with successful executives, both in our field and far from it.
The annual competition is a way for up-and-coming Rutgers Business School students and recent alumni entrepreneurs to present their ideas to a Shark Tank-esque lineup of successful businesspeople and benefactors with the eventual goal to support the growth of jobs in New Jersey.

“The RBS Business Plan Competition truly helped turn a dream into a reality,” wrote Dr. Aura Shoval, MD, MBA(c), founder and Chief Executive Officer of Let’s Move US. “Every single day, I see the need, as we struggle to find adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities. This competition, and the incredible people around me, help bring this to life.
“We will be using the prize money to build out our platform, and I could not be more excited about what’s ahead.”
“As discussed in our contest presentation, sports provide many tangible and intangible benefits. Unfortunately, few children or adults with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in sports and recreation programs, even though most are interested in doing so,” added Doug McCullough, MBA, Chief Operating Officer of Let’s Move US. “For example, current online tools only list 3-6 adaptive sports programs in New Jersey, whereas our team has identified over 200 programs!”
This is still just the beginning for Let’s Move US, as we’re growing and figuring out exactly what we want to be (and how we want to achieve our mission statement) every single day. Speaking of, it would behoove us to mention that we’re always looking for help.
